IEEE Spectrum articles on the events on September 11

The IEEE Spectrum magazine has a special section on the attacks on the WTC.

The IEEE Spectrum is a general Electrical Engineering periodical sent out to members of the IEEE. The articles in the special report give a more technical overview on the events on that day.

Article on the WTC structure

MIT's Technology Review has an article on how the World Trade Centre towers reacted to the collision of airliners.

While the towers eventually collapsed, it should be noted that they stood up for over an hour before giving way; and that they collapsed straight down. If they had collapsed sideways, more casualites could have been the result.

Read the article to hear the thoughts of civil engineers on the design of the towers and how the attacks have changed how buildings may be designed in the future to stand up to such terrorist attacks in the future.
